My Success Stories

My Healing Journey

On May 5th — my personal day of distress, my “wake-up call” — I had a pulmonary/bronchitis episode that left me without the breath to call 911 for help. This frightening, life-altering experience changed my thinking and my life. I started writing non-stop while in the ICU about what I had learned from that experience. Even hooked up to heart monitors, IVs, and oxygen, I wasn’t tired or scared — I felt awakened and energized. I was later asked to write for the International Women’s Magazine, MNow.

What I learned through my healing process is that health and healing need to come first — without our physical, mental, and spiritual health, everything else becomes secondary. I had always put my own health last, until I had no choice. I want to prioritize health in order to live a full life. I learned how important it is to be actively involved in your own health care, and the value of research and self-education.

Be Your Own Advocate

Only because I asked my pulmonary physician about “IgE levels” after reading a poster in his office, I learned mine were high — which led to me receiving monthly Xolair injections that improved my lung function. I also learned the importance of monitoring and recording my medications and treatments.

Love and Support Promotes Healing

Nothing meant more to me than the calls, visits, words of support, and gifts from family and friends. I learned how important it is to have support — and to be there for others in return.

The Mind-Body Connection

I learned to ask for help rather than always being the one giving it. Reconnecting with loved ones and surrounding yourself with positive people and energy — while eliminating toxic influences — matters. Your thoughts have a direct impact on your body and health; I learned firsthand how powerful the mind-body connection and the will to live are. Being short of breath also taught me to choose my words more carefully and to listen more intently.

Prayer and Divine Intervention

When I was unable to breathe or speak and went into sinus tachycardia, I saw a postcard on the floor with a picture of a rabbi that said “Soul Power.” In that moment, I prayed and asked for the breath to call for help — and was able to whisper my address into the phone to 911. Two volunteers from the Miami Jewish Federation later visited me and gave me prayers for healing, which remain a source of strength.

“I had to get sick, in order to get well” and “I had to almost die, in order to learn how to live.” I truly believe I lived and am here for a reason, and I want to use my networking skills to spread the word, and help give the gift of life and health to others.

The Mission

Healing Hope Team’s mission includes connecting people with expert healers, wellness information, and therapeutic tools to support the healing process — from conventional care to complementary approaches such as acupuncture, Reiki, and other techniques, alongside conventional treatment.

How You Can Be Involved

Share a healing story, recommend a practitioner or product, or volunteer to support someone else’s healing journey — whether that’s a message, a card, or getting involved with a cause like Ryan’s Project for lung awareness.

Editorial note: the original legacy post also included an extended section recommending specific home emergency medical-alert devices (following directly from Cindy’s account of not being able to call 911 without one). That product-recommendation content has been left out of this personal story and is a candidate for its own Product entry rather than embedded here — see docs/content-completion-plan.md.
